Valencia’s Climate
Being situated in the Mediterranean, the Valencian climate is pretty spectacular and those that live here are fortunate to be able to enjoy the sunshine pretty much all year round which has such a positive effect on lifestyle and attitude. With hot summers and mild winters, locals tend to be very social and spend most of their time outdoors and generally have a more positive outlook on life.
July and August are the hottest months when temperatures range between 27°C and 35°C and the city tends to empty out as locals head to the coast. It is not uncommon for Valencian’s to have a second home whether just 20 minutes outside of Valencia in El Saler or El Perello for example, or slightly further afield along the Costa Blanca in Javea, Moraira, Denia or Calpe which are just a one and a half hours drive away.
The temperatures during “winter” fluctuate between 10°C and 25°C in the day and to a low of 2°C at night with the coldest months being January and February.
Essentially one can expect to eat outside during the day almost all year round and spend most weekends by the beach.
October is rainy season where it can pour for days consecutively but is generally followed by long stretches of sunshine again.
Insider’s tip
With chilly mornings, warm afternoons and cool nights, dressing in the winter months can be tricky. Take it from someone who knows and has been caught out countless times, leaving the house in the morning and having to endure 25°C degree heat and sweating it out in a thick sweater come lunchtime!
The trick is multiple thin layers which you can take off and put back on as the day goes on. Think onions.
